Fontana Dam, NC - Mile 2015.7

After months on the trail, it is becoming hard to realize just how close (just 163 miles!) we are to fulfilling our goal. The past week's weather continues to throw additional challenges our way, as the temperatures remained below freezing for three days straight (a logistical nightmare for trying to stay hydrated). We were delighted when it began to warm up last night, only to find ourselves in a downpour this morning. While the rain continues, the forecast predicts better days ahead (thankfully). Either way, we will continue to push south!

  1. Yay, Half Full is done-the circle is complete!!

I have no idea who you pushed that mileage schedule, no matter how I diced it from Erwin I came up short... hope the package made it to NOC by the time you get there, you better be spending tonight!

  2. Half Full and Chomp arrived at NOC yesterday to find an early Christmas - seven packages of goodies were waiting for them! The brownies, seven layer bars, candy, cookies, peanut butter bars and more will provide the calories to get them to Springer Mountain. And they are carrying it all! Thanks everyone!

  3. Yay! Thanks for the update Liz. I am on track with their last 100+ miles, knowing Em is recounting every spot she remembers from this section with me i.e. that's where Bluebearee took the photo of me and I said I smelled... that's where we saw blah blah blah... thinking of them ALL the time now in this last week.

  4. Bluebearee - Emily commented exactly that! She said a whole series of memories were coming back as she "retraces" those steps of seven years ago. I'm also thinking of them all of the time - and imagine there are several other folks out there doing the same.

  5. I know your daughter Liz and I know the trail, and it NEVER leaves you... coming home @ the holidays could be stressful for them, I hope it's a gentle landing.

  6. I especially will be thinking of her when they pass through Mooney Gap (south of Albert Mt and Franklin) where I 'named' her!! :)

Maildrop Tips

We are excited to hear from you during our hike. We will check our email sporadically and can receive packages at the address to the right.

A few additional thoughts...
*Please label all mail with "Hold for AT hikers" and the ETA
*Send everything in small portions. Everything you sent will have to be carried in our packs out of town, which is usually uphill.
*Look for food items with strong flavor - fireballs, jolly ranchers, jelly beans, dried fruits, individual sized.
